Acaba de celebrarse la ceremonia de los Oscar y seguro que como yo, si no los habéis visto en directo, ya habréis averiguado quienes han sido los premiados de esta edición. Y cómo ya lo sabéis, yo no voy a repetirlo, voy a aprovechar para hablar de la que fue, una edición mítica en la historia de los Oscar.
En 1951, competían dos grandes películas, Eva al desnudo (All about Eve) dirigida por Mankiewicz y protagonizada por Bette Davis y Anne Baxter y El crepúsculo de los dioses (Sunset Boulevard) de Billy Wilder protagonizada por Gloria Swanson.
Eva al desnudo obtuvo catorce nominaciones a los Oscar, resultando la película con más nominaciones de la historia y no igualada hasta muchos años después por Titanic. El crepúsculo de los dioses tampoco se quedaba atrás con diez candidaturas. Lo más interesante, para mí al menos, era el oscar a la mejor actriz, por el cual competían dos de las más grandes divas de la historia del cine, Gloria Swanson y Bette Davis con dos papeles memorables.
Finalmente, la gran vencedora de la noche fue Eva al desnudo con seis estatuillas incluidas mejor película y mejor director, frente a El crepúsculo de los dioses que se llevó tres. Curiosamente, ni Bette Davis ni Gloria Swanson se llevaron el Oscar a la mejor actriz.
Esa ceremonia de los Oscar no me la hubiera perdido por nada del mundo, aunque sinceramente, habría quedado un poco decepcionada, porque aunque las dos películas son obras maestras, tengo que reconocer que tengo especial debilidad por El crepúsculo de los dioses. Tuvo que ser muy emocionante.

The Academy awards ceremony have already been hold and probably like me, if you have not seen the ceremony live, you would have already found out who have been the winners of this edition. And as you already know, I´m not going to repeat it, and I´m going to take advantage to talk about which was a mythical edition.
In 1951, two great films were rivals, “All about Eve”, directed by Mankiewicz and starring by Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, and “Sunset Boulevard”, directed by Billy Wilder and starring by Gloria Swanson.
“All about Eve” got fourteen academy awards nominations, and it was the film with most awards nomination of the history until it was equaled many years after by Titanic. “Sunset Boulevard” wasn´t fall behind with ten nominations. The most interesting point, at least for me, was that the academy award for the best actress, for which competed two of the greatest divas of the cinema history, Gloria Swanson and Bette Davis with two memorable roles.
Finally, the winner of the night was “All about Eve” with six statuettes including best film and best director, while “Sunset Boulevard” got three. The most curious was neither Bette Davis nor Gloria Swanson were awarded with the best actress Oscar.
I wouldn´t have missed this Academy awards ceremony for the world, although honestly I would have been a little disappointed because even when both of the films are master pieces, I have to recognize I have a soft spot for Sunset Boulevard. It must to be so exciting…
